Core Business DFI Course - 5th May 2021

 Day One - DFI course

Today was the introduction to our DFI course. We heard about the background of Manaiakalani, the early stages of development and how it has progressed over the years.

We discussed using Chrome as our browser, how we can organise our google drives and a variety of tools that we can use in google docs.

We had the opportunity to create in Google docs. I decided to create a poster that would connect to our upcoming inquiry learning in my class. We used the remove.bg website to get rid of the backgrounds of images we used from the internet. We also practised changing the table lines to the same colour as our background. Here is my poster below.

There were many tools that I had already used previously which made me feel like I was on the right track in terms of using the technology I have in effective ways. I did however still learn some new tips and tricks about how I could utilise Google apps even more. I learnt how we can add in hyperlinks to a Google doc that would take the user to the top of the page.

It was really valuable thinking about how I could utilise this learning in my classroom too.

  2. Hi Jessie

It's wonderful to have you with us on the DFI this term. I'm glad you took away some ideas you can apply with your students.
Having that understanding for the background and origins of Manaiakalani helps to give you that bigger picture for the pedagogy. Was there anything that surprised you?

Your poster looks great, and would look good in your website or printed off and on the wall. Nice work, Jessie :)

  3. Hi Jessie

I am looking forward to working with you on this DFI journey. You have created an amazing poster using what you have covered in the first session. Its fanstastic that you will be able to use it to support your classroom program.

I know when I completed the DFI, I loved refining skills I already had within the different tools, and also having the time to fully explore them with like minded people.

I wonder if there were 1 or 2 things you wanted to go away and trial in your classroom after this session, and if so how did it go?

    Blog you later

    1. Hi Karienne,

That's definitely how I am feeling about the course, that it will be a great way to refine skills and improve how I use the tools.

I didn't trial anything in my class but it was good to explore voice typing myself to allow me to think how I could use it with my students.

      Thanks!
